Booked months in advance for my daughter and her friend to have a nice spa day on my daughters actual 21st Birthday including a massage, however they went to the spa but did not have the treatments as they hadn't enough staff and it wasn't booked in properly. They then re-booked for another day a few weeks later to make up for it and asked me if I would like to join them to compensate for me booking it, my daughter had taken a half day from work and as we were on our way had a phone call to say there were no staff available to do the treatments again!! That is how it was left, the manager was supposed to ring after that but did not, awful experience for such a nice hotel.

My husband and I went for the "Lavish Mini Experience", whereby we got a mini massage and then were able to use the Marriott hotel facilities afterwards. The salon and spa seemed clean and well presented and we were both very happy with the treatments we received and the customer service in the salon and spa. However, our experience of the Marriott facilities let the whole package down. We got married in the Marriott in 2013 and remember the hotel as really top notch, luxury. I think the hotel has let its standards drop somewhat since. As you move around the building you notice that the doors are filthy with a thousand grubby handmarks and the paint is chipping on them (women's toilets particularly). When we entered the leisure facilities area we were met by a friendly but distracted lady, playing on her mobile phone behind the desk. Then we were told that the jacuzzi was out of order (I notice they didn't offer any partial refund on account of this). We were disappointed. The women's changing area was very old and desperately needs a re fit. My husband said the men's was the same and that it had a very unpleasant smell. The pool was a strange place; it seems to have an identity crisis between being a family holiday pool (several noisy kids with floats in there) and trying to convey a spa experience with the neo-Classical design (which is looking in need of some TLC). It was very hard for us to relax with all the screaming and shouting. In the end, we did several lengths and a few minutes in the steam room and then left. All in all, not the standard of luxury I was expecting on my one, well deserved yearly spa experience. I left feeling pretty disappointed to be honest and I will be going to Holland House or Aztec West spa next time.

This has to be one of the worst spa experiences ever. Myself and 2 friends booked in for a treatment as we were staying in the hotel for the weekend. Firstly they had us down for the incorrect treatment, then couldn’t actually get the correct treatment to work, we ended up having alternatives but the treatment lasted all of 15 minutes!! What a joke! The spa is definitely NOT LAVISH! The towels are threadbare, thin and full of holes! The rooms are pokey, with the massage couch against a wall! So the therapist can’t even carry out a proper massage as she can’t get to the other side! The therapists are inexperienced! I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I’ve been a client of LaVern for the past 8 years even when they were based in Hotwells. In all those past years I had an amazing experience of being looked after, pampered and cut so professionally well, that my friends always complement me on my hairstyle. The staff is always friendly, polite and attentive. I came to think nowadays that I would more likely cheat on my husband than I change my hairdresser (dear husband, if you are reading it - it is a french joke). The salon relocation to Marriott hotel was a great success and the bonus of free parking makes my visit even more pleasant. I would certainly and undoubtedly would recommend this place to anyone.

5* prices for 1* quality. Paid £55 for a hot shell massage, the girl was very sweet but the room was terrible. They need to spend some money on doing the place up! Room was a cold cupboard, old dirty sink with a cheap wooden therapy bed. Plastic mixing bowl under for steam therapy. Towels were bleach stained, hard and cold. Couldn't relax.
