Good thing first: all washers and dryers were operational. Unfortunately this simple fact sets this place already apart from most launderettes in Oxford. The place itself was relatively dirty. Dirty carpet floor, candy wrappers lying around, stains. There is no table to fold up washed cloths.
Now to the most important part: The washing machines. As mentioned before, they all were in working order. Unfortunately that's the only good thing. There are very limited options in terms of programme, and the "warm" wash actually used ice cold water (saving some money here?).The machines are really old (pre-war models?) and the washing results were mediocre at best. The "standard" size is quite small when compared to a standard household machine. And £4 for 30 min ice cold wash in a tiny machine: not exactly a bargain. The dryer works, but for my small amount of laundry it took £3 and it wasn't completely dry yet. That's £7 in total, one hour of lifetime wasted (as there isn't any possibility to use a laptop) for a small load of laundry...
Given the terrible state most launderettes are in in Oxford, I'll give two stars. In any other, more developed country, that'd be one at best. Looking forward to the continent!
Edit: Thank you, James, for your quick response. It's good to hear people actually care (as most unfortunately do not). Thumbs up for that. Unfortunately, you have not addressed the worst issue: the absolutely mediocre washing results (not really clean and no good smell despite using the same detergent (and quantity) as always). I can imagine it's hard to run a business like that in England, but I've travelled many places and, no offense, but even in countries far less developed (on paper at least) I had better experiences. There's no need for WiFi, but a place for folding usually is considered standard. Considering the carpet: hard flooring is more hygienic and easier to clean. But I'm well aware of how much the British like their carpets. Again, no offense, and hopefully some things to consider.
