Pleasant but not what you would call sophisticated hotel. Good for weddings and the like. Stayed for 6 nights. Room could have been cleaner, but well tidied. Food was variable. Very good buffet breakfast, awesome afternoon tea, see photo. Main meals were a bit hit and miss- starters and dessert very good indeed. Main courses plentiful but went from excellent to forgettable, I suppose depended on the chef that day. Friendly, well trained staff.

I took my mother here to celebrate her birthday with afternoon tea. Unfortunately it was not a good experience. The staff were pleasant but there were a number of things that were disappointing. Firstly the floor around the tables there were visible crumbs as well as on a number of chairs as well as a lot of dust. Then the afternoon tea arrived. Whilst £17 per person is fairly cheap what was served was poor. There were a couple of simple sandwiches a scone which was not fresh and then a mass of cakes which looked like they were bought from a supermarket. There was a large doughnut and muffin and cheap milkshake with candyfloss. We just left it. I'd prefer to pay more and have some freshly produce made on site or brought in from a local artisan for example. It's such a shame for such a beautiful setting to have such a poor product. The management should spend on the details and it could be something special. As it is I would recommend avoiding this place to also avoid disappointment.

If club 18-30 is your thing, this is right up your street. 4* this place certainly ain't! Room 29, Toilet flushes with slightly less water than can be found in the mugs on the tea tray. Mould on the shower curtain and around the top of the bathroom tiles, scuffed pant work and a bathroom door that only closes if you wedge your foot on it. Waited 20 minutes after we were sat for our evening meal before I had to ask if someone would take a drinks order at least let alone our food order! Food mediocre, certainly not 4*. Gave up waiting for our post dinner cocktails, again over 20 minutes, and simply left. Have cancelled the 2nd night of our stay here as service and quality of room is simply appalling. 1st night booked through Secret Escapes. But hotel argues that the superior room we booked wasn't available and that they had informed Secret Escapes of this fact. But no one, not even the hotel told us. We'll be contacting Secret Escapes to establish if they were indeed informed. If so, Secret Escapes can expect an earful too! Will not come here again under any circumstance.

Great location, excellent food, rooms modern and well kept, we enjoyed our stay, However! Our room (179)was directly in front of the only 2 massive extraction fans, noise and vibration made it impossible to sleep, noise level measuring a staggering 81 decibels! No alternative room available. On the basis of a very noisy room!! I have rated my stay a generous 4 star
