Very condescending and rude when I rang to speak to them regarding some issues such as litter, anti-social behaviour, men going to the mosque and blocking the cul-de-sac road to the main road (Tile Street) and also I wanted to say how other mosques have signs and clearly make sure no-one disturbs or makes a fuss towards the residents living nearby the mosque, after using the mosque and they must go home etc not hang around the alley ways and in front of our houses. I couldn’t say any of this as he went on and on after saying they have been approved of the project yesterday which I understand but at this meeting they said they allow the mosque to be open to the residents to talk about any issue or problems they may have hence why I rang. Clearly, they lied and mislead the council and panel to get their way. My main reason was to make an appointment to see him/ them but he told me to, ‘write a letter to the mosque and we will sit down and see what we can do.’ He then said, ‘I have better things to do with my time than be here talking to you. Assalaamu’alaikum and goodbye.’ He then hung up the phone. I can’t believe he hung up the phone before letting me even have a word in especially as it was ME who rang THEM/ HIM. Is this what you encourage in your mosque? If I was a man, would you have treated me this way? I think not. I was very polite and patient hoping to be heard and even allowed you to talk for a good few minutes only to be hung up on? How is that part of Islam? That isn’t what the prophet SAW taught us??? Is it? It’s clear what you teach in your mosque and it reflects on each of your ‘students’ going in and coming out of that mosque. This mosque has been standing there for almost 10 years or more and as a female living very close to the mosque I have not been made to feel welcome at your mosque mainly because of the way your so called students behave, even the grown men coming in and out of your mosque. It is disgusting how you have treated me and you obviously have more important things to do than listen to your neighbours points of views or issues because only YOUR points of views and issues are IMPORTANT. And he also mentioned how the men coming out of the mosque and how they behave is not his problem as he is not a police officer and I should ring the police if I or my neighbours get any abuse from them which I will definitely do from now on as you clearly don’t care what kind of men and students from the mosque you are producing. I hope the young ones you teach are taught proper manners and the sunnah way to treat people men and women alike because if this is how your behaving with a simple phone call. Only God knows what you are instilling in to the minds of the innocent children/ youths and future generation of Muslims. SubhanAllah. May Allah SWT make it easy for us all and instil kindness, respect and patience to the mosque elders in our community. Ameen. I have always had utmost respect and happiness towards this mosque and the elders and still do but it seems, it’s not mutual. It seems in these times of hardship where respect and kindness is out the window, it is all about getting what you want and not caring about others. I do pray the best for everyone and I hope the mosque finds ways to help and involve the actual residents and the community NEAR the mosque and on their door step and not just the men or students who attend it. Islam is about helping others and bringing happiness and positivity and I pray the new projects main aim is ONLY this and not a money making scheme and male dominated.
