My first visit to James Ross jewellers to get some valuations was a great experience. James was extremely helpful, even though very busy, and gave me verbal valuations for some items recently acquired. I was also looking to buy a Rolex as a present for my husband, Leslie, and with James’s help bought a beautiful watch as a total surprise - his face was a picture when he opened it! James was exceptionally helpful and was happy to change the bracelet strap as my husband prefers leather straps. Thank you. Susie Dawes.

I took an old watch belonging to my Great Grandma into James to find out more about it and get an estimate to get it working gain. James was so helpful, knowledgeable & informative. Transpired when he opened it up that it was a reputable make so worth investing in. As I wasn't keen on the existing strap/bracelet, I asked if he could attach the actual watch face onto another leather cuff/strap belonging to a Great Aunt of mine from the other side of my family, which he did. I now have a beautiful watch, steeped in family history and sentimentality which I wear most days. Means such a lot. James couldn't have been more helpful and genuinely seemed to take great pleasure in restoring it for me when he heard about my family history.

I bought an incredible second hand watch from James Ross Jewellers 6 years ago. Popped into today to see if he could help me increase the size of the strap and the watch was back on my wrist within 5minutes of entering the shop. James even remembered the watch from all that time ago. Fantastic after service, even 6 years down the line! Thanks so much.

Our experience at James Ross Jewellers was extremely satisfying and rewarding. We wanted to create a bespoke item of jewellery based on a piece belonging to my late mother-in-law. James was able to put forward some ideas, and together we came up with a lovely design resulting in the production of a stunning ring. We recommend James Ross for all your jewellery requirements, and if you find yourself in his shop and would like to see this fine creation, we are sure James would show you a photo!

Awful workmanship! If only I could give 0 stars. I really regretted choosing this place. I asked for my chunky gold ring to be turned into three dainty stacking rings which resulted in a family heirloom being ruined by appalling craftsmanship. No level of skill was used. The result looked like it came from a Christmas cracker then was ran over by a combine harvester. I couldn’t have been more clear what I had in mind as I gave them the pictures (see below) and exact dimensions. The owner was actually given a cheap ring I wanted a replica of, and was able to measure it. I was told it’d take two weeks for them to be made. Nearly three weeks later I went to collect them but had a nasty surprise when I saw the monstrosities they made. The rings looked nothing like what I asked for, one was chunky and the setting was twice the width agreed (despite the owner claiming it was the same size) it was wonky and uneven, also there were some very visible cuts around the stone’s setting. The two hammered style ones were incredibly ugly and badly made. They weren’t even polished, they both look damaged, scratched so much so they appear grey/almost green. In addition, the cheap ring I left with them to make a replica of was slightly tarnished but still wearable beforehand. When they returned it to me it was completely blackened. I was told they’ll melt them down again and start over and should be ready to collect on Friday the following week. That Friday went by but I haven’t heard from them. Two more weeks went by so I eventually got frustrated and went back to the shop. Turns out they haven’t even started work at that point so I said I wanted my property back which went from being a 14 carat, beautifully made antique style gold ring worth a few hundred pounds to 3 bands so ugly no-one would ever wear. The shops owner wouldn’t even say sorry after all this. Edit after owners reply: I would have been very happy if the rings looked like the images (the picture of the hammered design was sent over to James on day one) I was reassured they will look just like that. James had the cheap ring in his hand to take measurements of (on day one) and match, yet it turned out twice as big. I absolutely did not “change” anything “once finished”. What I find “offensive” is the level of service I received and that I was expected to pay £300 for it.

What an amazing shop with a huge range of superb watches and high class jewellery! My eye was bedazzled! Actually what impressed me most though, was the very friendly service backed up by exceptional depth of experience and knowledge, really very impressive. I took a number of rings to be valued, and James not only explained tonnes of info about them, but also identified a fault in one that could have lead to a stone falling out, that alone made the visit worthwhile. A long standing family business with exceptional values and skills. Highly recommended.
