I have been going to classes here for the last decade and think very highly of the centre. There are classes for all levels from beginners up to teachers, including specialist ante-natal ones. The teachers are uniformly excellent and some are truly inspirational. The teaching style is supportive, with an emphasis on demonstrating, because Iyengar yoga focuses on precision in the asanas and, ultimately, on breathing. That means it is less energetic than some styles, but still physically satisfying. The main point, however, is active meditation and for me Iyengar does that better than any of the other styles I have tried. Most of those who attend are women, but there are a few men and, whoever you are, the atmosphere among teachers and fellow students is welcoming. You do not need any of your own equipment, though some people bring their own mat. The centre is in a small former bank premises which means classes are small (no more than 20 people in my experience) and that makes it easier for the teachers to personalise instruction. Middle-class south Edinburgh is rich in yoga classes, so we are spoiled for choice, but I can recommend this centre.
