I went to the salon this morning as I have been there 2 previous times.
The 1st time it was for a texture release and the 2nd time it was to add 3 extension tracks, both those initial times I had great service and quality work, which was what led me to book in for a simple wash and blow-dry for today.
This simple wash and blow-dry turned out to be extremely disappointing. It was clear that the stylist did not know how to deal with afro hair.
1. Washed my hair multiple times with shampoo, this took close to 30 minutes - she basically stripped my hair of all of its natural oils
2. Instead of patting my hair with the towel - standard practice for afro hair to avoid tangling - she instead really went at it with the towel.
3. To avoid breakage afro hair is best detangled when wet before drying- instead she put me under a hooded dryer with no leave-in conditioner or heat protector which left my hair looking like straw - super dry
4. As soon as I left the hooded dryer she attempted to dry comb my hair - finally she then added a heat protector not even distributing it throughout my hair.
5. She didn't use a blow dryer and comb to fully detangle my hair - instead, she was using a tiny comb and then went directly to using a straightener - at this point baffled that no one had intervened I stopped her when I tried to explain the issue, her boss then came over and told me that they usually use leave-in conditioner at the end?? Who puts a wet substance in straightened hair?? And from her explanation, it was their standard practice.
It's as if they thought I had caucasian hair and not afro!
In the end, they fried my hair, I paid 70GBP for a simple wash and blow-dry that took 3 HOURS!
The fact that they didn't understand the problem made it worse for me.
Go there for beautiful hair but not for healthy hair!
Update following Salon's reply:
One thing is washing the hair thoroughly another is stripping it of its natural oils.
I didn't request oil AT ALL! I was baffled that I had to ask for a leave-in conditioner as I repeatedly wrote on my review. Who would put oil on a hair that will go under heat? That would make it fry even more!
No heat protector was used before I went under the hooded either.
She should've blow-dried my hair to match my extensions as it says on the reply, but again that was not her initial action it was something else that I HAD TO ASK FOR as she was simply going to use a straightener.
Also, it wasn't a small round brush that was used but a tail comb. Which is why it left a trail of my broken hair all over the salon floor.
But as I said the fact that the problem is still not understood makes it worse for me. Excuses are not great customer service and I truly hope that it is a learning experience.
Go there for beautiful hair but not for healthy hair!
