Green Motion Car & Van Rental edinburgh

We have used Green Motion several times. They seem to have the best prices. Though it is always a good idea if you can to have some sort of insurance covering the excess independently of any car rental company, it is a major addition to rental costs. They can be at bit slow at the pick up place - Edinburgh airport for us - but are pleasant to deal with. The company is quick to reply to emails for help or information.

Green motion was not too bad, except for the prices. We booked a car through a partnership website. So we hoped it would coast us around £130. But then when we arrived, it finally cost us over £500. So got it we paid the full cover insurance. But still. That is not what is bothering us the most though. When we firstly rent the car we paid a little bit more so we could get a fully fueled car. What we didn’t understand is that we didn’t have to refull it when we would turn it back. So we brought back the car with the fuel completely charged. And when we asked to the team if we had to, they said no. So, as a nice and kind customer service they could have make an “offer” to us. You know, just to make your guests happy and prove them their in good hands. But no. The manager just refused. Shame. So we came to paid the over kilometres (fair enough we knew about that) + the fuel we charged. Did I forgot to say that we could have gone away without paying those kilometres? Cause they didn’t fill in the form properly. But as we are not thief people we told them they made a mistake. So we paid everything. It is not even if they had to reimburse us just for free. I work with guests everyday. So I know what we asked for is not impossible. Didn’t know such a business was at this point in need of money. First and last time we renting with them.

Absolutely awful. Firstly, they are not located with the rest of the Edinburgh airport car rental companies. You have to find a shuttle to their office, and this isnt clear. We had no idea where to even go for this shuttle. Next, if you have a credit card without a pin (basically any American credit card), you will be required to pay hundreds extra for insurance. When you balk at this, they will show you page three, section seven of their terms and conditions, and admonish you for not knowing this. Then you pay. After we finally left, we had a warning light turn on for tire pressure after driving for a half hour. We returned to Green Motion, and they refused to give us a different car. They said this warning was displaying in error. Nice that they are willing to make this gamble for you when you are driving out to the mountainous highlands! Since we had no other options, we left on our honeymoon trip, hoping for the best. Luckily our tire didn't blow out, but we did see more dashboard warnings for tire pressure and other things during our adventure! The real joke at the end, though, was that they charge you extra if you go over 95 miles per day, and we would have been under that mileage for the trip had we not gone back to ask for help after receiving the initial dashboard warning. They were happy to charge us for the extra mileage anyway. Thanks for getting our romantic first trip as husband and wife off to a "fun" start, Green Motion. Won't make that mistake again.

Based on my own experience I would request that anyone booking through a third party thoroughly reads and prepares for the terms and conditions. If not you will have an absolutely dreadful experience like me. There are a number of conditions that I personally found were different from the norm. This caused a massive set of issues.

Everything went smoothly. Booked and paid through Expedia, very good value. Note: you need to catch the free shuttle on platform 8 across the tramway station, the agency is literally 5 minutes away. The only pain point is having to refuel to the same level as at pickup.

Great hire! Very competitive price and a nearly new car with a super specification. The deposit and excess where higher than the main stream rental companies I’ve experienced which is perhaps why the price of the rental was so competitive (>50% less). Pick up and drop off we’re fast and the pick up location is easily reached by a short bus transfer, direct from arrivals terminal. Would definitely use again!

Had an amazing experience renting a car from the Green Motion. One of their renting agents, Jacob went over and beyond to help us out. (Other agents seemed nice and friendly too). He took time to show the cars and worked on the rate. Also gave us the tips to save time and money as I was new to the country. We haven’t returned the car yet. Hopefully returning will be just as good. Highly recommend this car rental.

A very good, quick, economic and efficient service. Short bus ride from the airport. Worth picking a mid range car if travelling with more than two large bags. Alex @ customer service was particularly helpful when we dropped the car back.

I must admit that I generally do not look forward to any car rental process, let alone one through a "budget" provider. Attempts to sell you vastly inflated insurance upon collection, less than friendly staff, concern that you may have overlooked some existing damage to the vehicle at time of collection, holding your breath whilst the vehicle is scrutinised upon return, etc. all make for a less than pleasurable experience. Not so on this occasion. I booked the car through Zest and the rental was fulfilled by Green Motion at Edinburgh Airport where I found the agent pleasant and very helpful, the check-in process smooth (she gracefully accepted my declining the offer of extra insurance!) and the vehicle unblemished. The return process was also painless. The fact that I received a vehicle upgrade was the cherry on the cake - and very much appreciated. Would I rent from Zest / Green Motion again based on this experience? Most definitely Yes.

Recently having been unable to MOT my car I was needing to rent a car for a few days.. my car was to be collected from the Edinburgh Airport branch.. the site is really easy to find and once there the staff were really friendly and the whole process easy. My car was clean and much nicer than I expected. I was shown the important features and everything was explained.. On returning car I was met by a member of staff who quickly confirmed all was OK. Again he was polite and friendly. I have no complaints about Green Motion and will happily use them again and recommend to friends and family.. Thank you for a hassle free rental
