i love this place, the National Library part is where I go. It's excellent and normally very quiet. It seems to me to be the West Ends best kept secret. I'm often in there on my own , apart from the 2 or 3 staff. I only go on Friday's so I can't speak for other days. The archive films which are accessible from numerous comfortable individual stations are brilliant. I've revisited my childhood numerous times. If you haven't been then GO, you won't be disappointed.

Glasgow Stores for the Hunterian are held there. You need to submit a form and it weirdly takes about 6 weeks to access archives. The National Library archives are also held there but much easier to access

Great Aikido club. I just started earlier this year, and I was warmly welcomed. Sensei Firestone is a great teacher, patient but keen to help students progress. Great mix of friendly and helpful black belts and lower grades. Classes at Kelvin hall are Wednesday and Sunday evenings. Wednesdays tend to be focused on technique development, while Sundays often feature more weapon practice. Definitely recommend Aikido to anyone interested in a martial art focused on tradition, technique, and self development, rather than direct competition.

5/ 5

The environment is light-hearted, polite and friendly. Everyone has a good laugh and is trained carefully whilst showing respect. The teacher is extremely knowledgeable, patient and eager to teach new students. Class consists of warm ups followed by breaking down into smaller groups each led by a high grade student who can demonstrate the techniques shown by sensei at the front of the class in one to one basis.

It is incredibly fascinating what is going on there, so we can become the best version of ourselves -truly in control of our minds and bodies ( something I was not quite managing prior to my enrollment)

5/ 5

I have been practicing Aikido for around 8 years, however I am only a fairly new member to Sensei Firestone's Aikido class. My previous Aikido practice in Castlemilk closed down where I was taught by Sensei Ede who is a great teacher. Thankfully Sensei Firestone gave me the opportunity to continue my Aikido by joining his class in Kelvin Hall on a night that I can regularly make. I have been made to feel most welcome by Sensei Firestone and all at the club. The Aikido practice is to a high standard with a mix of students at different levels. Everyone demonstrates a willingness to develop their Aikido and are very patient with me even at times when my techniques take time to get right in practice. I love Aikido and what it gives me in life. It improves my physical and mental wellbeing. Gives me more confidence. The power of Aikido is extraordinary. When you are a ukah working with a partner, you feel the power from standing to hitting the mat. You feel this power in different levels, when practicing with different partners, depending on everyone's level. It is also a great feeling when I get an Aikido Technique correct. You might not get them right all the time, but even if it is once only in a class, it is worth coming to get the feeling of delivering an accurate Aikido Technique with power. This is really interesting and makes me want to come back for more and to improve my level. From the Aikido practices I have had at Kelvin Hall, it is clear Sensei Firestone has been studying this Martial Art with dedication for years as his high skilful ability shines through. I would highly recommend Aikido to anyone. It has improved my life in a positive way and I will continue to practice Aikido for the rest of my life. Many thanks Sensei and to all in the Aikido wider group. Kind regards, Paul Sorrie
