In May 2013 I had worktops, splashbacks, a sink and taps fitted by Doors & More. I was happy with the fitting but very unhappy about the £300 charged for each of the three splashbacks. I questioned the price at the time but was assured that it was correct. When I later investigated the retail price for the same item charged by twelve other suppliers and the manufacturing company itself, the price averaged around £137 (less than half the £300 price charged by Doors & More). The highest price I found was £144. I wrote immediately to the director questioning their price. I did not get a reply and two weeks later sent a second letter. Still no reply or acknowledgement. After five phone calls to the Customer Services Department over the next month, I finally got a reply after waiting a total of two months. The reason for the price was that splash backs are not a core item.
I still considered that a price was excessive. I was also told by the salesman and the fitter that I required a separate engineer costing £70 to check the safe refitting of the gas hob. I would then be issued with a certificate to show that it met regulations. I never saw an engineer and have not received a certificate. When I contacted Gas Safe, they informed me that they have no record of the installation and this is not necessary anyway for a hob.
I have not received a reply to a third letter sent on 17 July asking for verification that an independent engineer was used, why I was told I would require certification or who got the £70, as well as ignoring my letters and phone calls and questioning again the excessive price of the splash backs.
If these issues could have been resolved with Doors & More, I would have been happy. Instead I am left feeling irrelevant now the money had been paid.
