If you want to have a wonderful Cambridge experience, book a superior room at the college, overlooking the beautiful garden and enjoying breakfast at their dining Hall. Right in the center of town, I took an Uber from the station- about £8 including £2 tip- and I walked back for my return- about 20 minute-simple walk. Welcoming staff and easy check-in. My room was bigger than an average hotel accommodation. It had a private tiny shower in a giant toilet room. Breakfast was cafeteria-style, including many hot options. The breakfast hall is rather unkept and a bit dirty, staff don't seem to mind. Skip breads and pastries, not the bakery kind. You can still have a nice start in the morning with fresh fruits, full English breakfast or a slice of salmon.

The wooden entrance door (called The Great Gate) appears disproportionate. Its lower portion was obviously sawed-off to keep up with the height of the street that was raised a number of times in the past centuries. While Christ's College was founded in 1437, the first buildings surrounding First Court were built in 1448. The college was the first training institution for secondary school teachers. Charles Darwin and John Milton are among its famous alumni. An engraved portrait of the former hangs on the wall of The Great Gate.

5/ 5

Christ's College's formal is good fun, though the food was decidedly lacking in terms of meat, a pet peeve. Nevertheless, in the right company, the College is a fun place to spend time, and the hall itself is suitably scenic.
