I had surgery on the 29th July. My admittance was fine and easy, I was shown up to my room and was checked over and told about the procedure, this was all fine and as expected. One concern here was that the room was not entirely clean as there was some dust and crumbs near the bedside table, I expeceted it to be spotless but i overlooked this and just wanted everything to go well with good care.
Following my surgery and just after waking from anesthetic, I was wheeled back to my room on the bed, this is where the major issues started. I was left in the room with the door wide open and the emergency button out of reach, I was in discomfort and was not able to move to get it. The nurse did not come back to check up on me at all, an hour passed and the surgeon then came in whilst walking past to discuss the procedure, before he left I asked if he could place the emergency button closer to me and to close the door, which I am grateful he did.
A nurse then came finally to ask if I had got up out of bed, I was advised to not get out of bed without a nurse being there following general anesthetic, so was surprised I was asked this. I was also asked if I had passed fluid but had not, he then left a few hours passed and he returned a few times to ask if I had, after 3 hours and still not passing fluid I felt like the nurse was getting annoyed by the amount of time it was taking and just wanted me discharged. I eventually did pass fluid and called for the nurse, I was told i can remove the bandage before I leave. I did not want to do this myself as I was concerned i could open the stitches up and asked if he could help. He was not gentle at all and literally just ripped it off, there was some blood coming out after this so was given some gauze and told to hold it for 5 to 10 minutes. After i was asked if i had someone to collect me which i did and was told I can leave.
I was not given a complete thorough discharge I felt that it was rushed and some key aspects overlooked. I think the hospital is good overall going by appointments I've been to but my experience following surgery was far from the best.
