Like a Victorian asylum

1.0/ 5

This place has a history of neglect. Of treating anyone who questions the care on offer with contempt. Lazy staff, over medicating patients who come out with more problems such as withdrawal from drugs they didn’t need. Use meds as first option instead of trying other ways to calm situations. Not following Mental health laws. Human rights laws. Rights to privacy and dignity. Not enough health checks after prescribing dangerous meds. Obviously CQC not fit for purpose.

I'd rate it less if I could,in my opinion close it down.. A lot of false staff and Drs that pretend to care ,when really they don't.I could write a book about things that go on there ,but decided to write a review instead,it's easier

I'm a family member not a patient. Quite a useless place in its current mode, I wound't call a hospital, but to be fair it's called a 'centre'. Staffed by people who probably think they know what they're doing, which is very scary. Professional arrogance and complacency is commonplace in psychiatric units and this is no different. A 'we know best attitude', not the patient or family members will be difficult to overcome without forward thinking and change. I've had three spread out experiences of this place over 8 years. This time personalised continuity of care was very lacking with a patient who was well on her way to recovery after 3 months on an acute ward. And, Becklin Centre evidently does not have enough staff to make the best use of its own facilities. In any case it is very difficult for psychiatric professionals to successfully treat detained patients. They most likely want to do a good job, but they still haven't found the right balance between liberty and personal care. As a social experiment detain a large sample of these so called professionals in a distressed state for 1-3 months. Once recovered put them back in their role, then we might see better outcomes for patients in future.
