I have wanted to leave this review for a while but have delayed it out of fear of being refused a reference. I was not a patient at the practice but an employee and I would not recommend working here. Before I start, I would like to say that working with dentists Sandra and Rachel was the highlight of my time at the practice. Both were lovely and professional at all times.
I think this practice seems wonderful if you are visiting as a patient and especially if you are a friend of the owner but behind the scenes I saw a different story.
My first recollection of working with the main dentist, Nicola, is of her discussing music at a party her daughter had saying she was repeating the n word and I recall her saying "If they can say it why can't I". Not only this incident but on another occasion, I had asked if she was able to fill in a patients insurance form and she replied, saying something along the lines of "Chinese people" being tight with money (I don’t even think she was sure of the patients ethnic background). One of the other nurses had also asked me if referring to me as "half-cast" was appropriate. I think the fact this was even a question is concerning.
I had returned to work one day from sickness, to see that one of the nurses had disclosed mental health problems I was having via email when trying to find a cover nurse. I found this uncomfortable and awkward, especially as I thought we would all be familiar with confidentiality due to the nature of the job.
Appointments would often run quite late, as Nicola would spend the time having conversations with patients she knew personally and her personal life seemed to become an obstacle for the workplace. I also do not remember ever be on time, sometimes waiting up to 2 days after the date stated in my contract!
When I finally did hand in my resignation, I felt even more awkward especially as I didn’t feel comfortable discussing the above issues with any of my colleagues.
