Unfortunately they have made starting a new prescription one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Ironically stress is one of the biggest triggers for my condition so that's great...
The story in full is that I was to be started on a methotrexate prescription. I was given the script from a specialist to take to my own GP who would fulfil it. I got my first dose no problem, but I am due for weekly bloods before I collect each weeks dose.
Here's where the problems begin. The next available date for bloods at my practice is in 2 weeks, but I HAVE to take this medication every week on the same day. The receptionist can see my details so I accept the appt and try to put in for a repeat script anyway, hoping it will be overlooked this week and that's why no one has brought up an issue about it.
I go to collect my script and they have nothing for me.
TWO of their GP's rejected the script citing "bloods needed" but neither bothered to call me and discuss with me (if they had or even looked at their own records they'd see they don't even have any appts to take blood in the first place)
So I now have to explain to the reception staff that I absolutely need this medication THIS week, no later.
They send me to Maryhill for bloods, cool, more time I need to take off work. I get there and the staff are lovely, I explain to the nurse my issues and how it's been difficult for me to get my prescriptions, that I'm worried about how my next bloods are on a Friday but I take my meds on a Saturday. She reassures me and says it's fine, bloods get processed and are done the same day.
I call back the next day and my bloods aren't done.
SHE ALSO REASSURES ME SEVERAL TIMES THAT THEY ARE OPEN ON A SATURDAY. ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN WEBSITE THEY ARE OPEN SATURDAY.
I turn up Saturday and the doors are locked. I am now left completely cut off from my prescription, I call the practice but it just says it's closed and redirects me to NHS24
I now have to call them in an absolute panic and attempt to get them to fulfil my script because my GP has failed me so miserably on almost every level.
After talking to an out of hours doctor today she recommends I try switching practices because of how badly they have been managing me. I am told that for someone in my position I should not be having my bloods done on a Friday for a prescription I need to take on a Saturday. I just changed to this practice from somewhere else so I don't really have any other options right now.
I would say that if you have a specific condition that requires close monitoring and care from your GP: DO NOT COME HERE! They don't care. They don't prioritise you by condition or severity. Please find another practice that is better at looking after their high risk patients, because this isn't one of them. People are constantly warned not to suddenly stop taking their medication but this practice has forced me into a position where that's almost what I had to do.
