Upon visiting York as a short getaway in the summer of 2019, we popped in to Barbara Cattle for a quick pee and were so happy we did so. They were actually just about to close after a busy Saturday in the Summer but nothing was too much trouble. Such friendly and expert service, especially from young Sales rep, Hal, with the distance for final delivery being no trouble at all. Our rings are beautiful, great quality, arrived on time and fit perfectly.

I have made 3 lifetime purchases at this shop, and the products are as wonderful as the staff. Not a bad word to say in the 7 years we have been going.

We had a terrible experience with Barbara Cattle. Tried to get a ring repaired and was quoted £30 with a 7 day delivery as it was a very simple job.. 4 weeks later they called us up and they attempted to charge £70 for the exact same job. We of course were very unhappy about this and pushed back. They claimed that there had been an admin error and agreed to charge us £30. The ring arrived a couple of days later and the artificial pearls that had been reset literally fell out. Had a second jeweller take a look at the work and was told that they had used the wrong glue and had actually damaged the ring in doing so. Would not recommend Barbara Cattle to my worst enemy. Con artists! Their sales rep seems credible on and friendly but it is all a front. Avoid avoid avoid!

Purchased our wedding rings from here and the service was phenomenal. We shopped around 7 or 8 different independent jewellers and none of them offered the service like Barbara Cattle. They helped us understand the different sizes, level of gold, fits etc. and although they were not the cheapest in the city, we paid more for the service and how they made us feel. I've since been back to get my ring re-sized as I opted for a size to big, and again the service was 10/10 - I was even offered a discounted price for being a loyal customer. Special mention to Hal who is very good at what he does.

We found the service at Barbra Castle in York outstanding. We were looking for an engagement ring just before Christmas and the gentleman serving us was absolutely fantastic. He spent so long with us and explained everything so kindly and in so much detail. There was such a wonderful collection and we loved all that he showed us. We didn't end up getting the ring here in the end but the service we received was so fantastic we will definitely be coming back here to get our wedding rings and any more jewellery we purchase. Would definitely recommend.

I discovered Barbara Cattle after stumbling across their sister store in Sheffield whilst looking for engagement ring. As a stereotypically clueless man attempting to look for something so important, I can honestly say that the staff were amazing. Sarah started from the basics and explained everything that I was looking at in a professional yet easy to follow pace, without ever being condescending or getting frustrated with me and my lack of knowledge. The service was impeccable, I was made to feel valued at all times and there was no feeling of pushy sales or any other pressure tactics. The ring has gone down fantastically with my now fiancé, and when we returned to have the ring sizing adjusted we were delighted to find that again the service was brilliant, with our request to have the ring returned by a specific (and very short notice) date being no problem at all. I would thoroughly recommend Barbara Cattle and would not hesitate to use them again myself!
