This is a really bad Avis office, they’re basically thieves. Invented a scratch which could not have been my responsibility and then charged £400 for it without even speaking to me! The following is a depressing example of exploitation of consumers by a huge company. It actually makes me sick. I’ll never use Avis again. Hired a car for two days. I returned it but the Avis was closed - which was not made clear when I booked it not when I picked the car up. I picked it up at Durham airport and didn’t check it when I got it because I was pressured to sign the documents without doing so (Avis understaffed). I have used Avis many times and am a ‘preferred customer’ whatever that means so I didn’t think to check the car or take photos. Not only was York Avis closed when I returned it (at the agreed time) but there was no space to leave the car in their return area. There was a small A4 page unprofessionally stuck to the side of this Avis office with directions as to where to leave the car when the car park is full, in an industrial part of the city (v inconvenient when you’re in a hurry to get a train and have to rush across the city with luggage), which I did. The next day I get an email from Avis saying I was being charged £400 for something that could not possibly have been me (a tiny scratch on the rear bumper) as I only ever parked on my friend’s drive and drove a couple of journeys on a motorway. If anything it must have happened after I left the car and dropped off the keys in the drop box or it existed on the car before I collected it but was undocumented.

Great service & very helpful getting us a new car when we were rear ended by a van. I will amend this review since after leaving the country they proceeded to charge my credit car $3800.00, even though their paperwork shows only $1600.00 in damages. Now they won't respond to my insurance company. They are horrible.

Amazing standard of cars, Always cleaned like brand new. Woman in there needs to move faster, usually blaming her computer and others. Twice I've walked in and she's shouting on her mobile phone and I've had to wait. Manager seems decent though, always helped us. The standard of the location and the cars gain it 5 stars.
