5/ 5

This is a wonderful, convenient hotel that seems to get bad reviews only due to their awkward check-in/key collection process. However, if you can navigate that and read and accept their information, which clearly states that they are a sister hotel to the Arundel down the road and you may have to check-in / collect keys at the Arundel, then the rest is perfect. I contacted the Arundel, to book a family room at the Ashley. I explained that I wanted the Ashley because the rate was significantly cheaper but the hotels looked the same. We were needing to attend a wedding, 3 min walk from the Ashley so I also asked if we could check in early at 1.30pm on a Saturday, which was accepted. We arrived at the Arundel to check in as per the instructions, at 1.20pm. The car park at the Arundel is really awkward, especially the ticket/gated entrance & exit. Went to reception and got told that the staff had already made their way across to the Ashley to check us in there, which was quite annoying as had anyone told us, we could have just gone straight to the Ashley! So we wasted 10 mins faffing at the Arundel but when we got to the Ashley... ...we were checked in & given our room immediately, which was on the 1st floor. The gentleman checking us in was lovely. The hotel is dated but in a great way, with a lot of charm. Everything is very clean and to the point. The beds are huge & comfy, great towels & toiletries, up to date TV, nice tea & coffee facilities, all for a fab rate which included breakfast for all 4 of us. And what a wonderful brekkie it was - continental AND hot full English, with the nicest table service I've had in a long time from some really sweet ladies. It was my stepsons birthday so they popped a candle in a muffin & brought it out singing to him, what a kind, heartwarming gesture. Check out wasn't strict, very relaxed & casual. The car park is very convenient, as is the hotel location, walking distance from the centre. We loved our stay & highly recommend it, thank you!
