I have had chronic lower back pain for over 7 years. I went to this place for my first consultation

1/ 5

I have had chronic lower back pain for over 7 years. I went to this place for my first consultation in hopes that I could get answers on exactly what the problem was. I met with John Roberts and a university student (on placement) upon arrival and I explained what I had been experiencing. John then had me stand up straight and asked me to lean forward, backwards and side to side. With each direction I moved, he would apply pressure on different parts on my back and asked me if I felt any pain upon which I replied yes to every direction i leaned towards. He then asked if the pain was radiating to my glutes, lower limbs, side to side or further up my spine. I said no. After that, John stated that there was nothing wrong with my back and that it is in fact, my back overcompensating during activity. He said that I need to work on my flexibility, and also focus on strengthening my glutes, hamtrings, and abdominal muscles using a list of exercises that he will provide me. He then said that he would leave me with his student on placement, to go through the list of stretches and exercises he wanted me to do regularly. The entire consultation took no longer than 15 minutes. I felt this was odd and incomplete, as I forked out $125 and was told by the receptionist that initial consultation usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes. I left feeling a little unsatisfied and confused but I trusted that John knew what he was talking about. Fast forward approximately 2 years later, I now live in QLD and my chronic lower back pain has worsened over the years despite regular exercise and stretching. A friend suggested that I see a chiropractor who conducted an X-ray of my spine. The X-ray revealed that I in fact have osteoarthritis in my lower spine. This news was extremely disheartening for me as I am only in my 20’s and have been following John’s advice on doing the regular exercises (to help strengthen my glutes, hamstrings, abdominals etc.) and it turns out a lot of them have made my arthritis worse and have put unnecessary strain on my lower spine. If John had taken the time to properly assess me instead of boldly stating there was “nothing wrong with my back” I definitely could have used these past 2 years to my advantage and worked on bettering my health and well-being. I am extremely disappointed in the poor service I was provided by John, considering the amount of money it cost me as well as later finding out the real reason behind my chronic back pain. The service was unsatisfactory, lazy and just downright laughable. I encourage anyone to have an X-ray or MRI before going to this place and to get a second opinion as they clearly haven’t got a clue.
