5/ 5

Our son returned home after the Christmas holidays on NYD to find there was no power other than lights. After checking the obvious suspects - fuse board looked fine, no secondary CU etc - we tried calling every emergency electrician in the Checkatrade list. Not one answered which, given it was 9pm on NYD we could hardly blame them. But with no emergency contact available from the agency (way to go Sinclair Properties!) the students faced 3 days with no heating, no hot water and no power until Sinclair opened their offices to call an electrician. It is beyond me how estate agents in York can offer such appalling services to student tenants at high premiums and get away with it but get away with it they do. But we found Dennis King on the installation paperwork at the property and miraculously, their VM provided 3 emergencies contact numbers - and on the first one, someone answered! Very generously agreed to speak to my son and talk him through a dodgy RCD button, power was resumed. In the event it wasn't a huge repair as such, but it was one we hadn't been able to resolve on our own at 9pm on NYD and when every other electrician had declined to answer our calls, it was incredibly kind and generous to take the call at 9pm on NYD when most reasonable people would be recovering from the festivities on the sofa! In Tier 3 there were no hotels open, and no one else had returned for them to go stay with (nor should they have under the lockdown rules) making Sinclair Properties' lack of foresight even more staggering. Without DKE the students would have had to return back to their respective families or endure 3 days in sub zero temperatures without heating, hot water, cooking facilities or power. Sometimes it's the small generosities that make the biggest impact and for this one, DKE deserves the universe to be very kind in 2021.
