Windermere Tourist Information Centre – lake district

Really useful for newcomers and experienced lake-goers. Extremely helpful and add a real personal touch, and go the extra mile to make your stay in the lakes a great one!

Very useful and helpful. Conveniently located at the top of the high street and near the railways station. We picked up some maps and then did our walk up to Orrest Head, Wainwright’s first.

Useful maps and lovely trinkets to buy. We aimed to keep our luggage here while we explored the town before our evening train but note * it closes at 16:00 so this wasn’t an option.

I am from the U.S. and was in the Windermere Tourist Information Centre in early March 2020. A young woman there named I Katie or Kathy was extremely helpful. She got me a night at a very nice Bed & Breakfast (B&B) in Windermere at a good location at a reasonable price. I stayed there one night and after taking a cruise on Lake Windermere the next morning stopped by the Centre again to see if she was there and could help me find a B&B in York, which I was heading to. She again was extremely helpful, friendly, and found a nice, inexpensive B&B for me to stay at in York. If you visit the Windermere Tourist Information Centre I highly recommend you speak to this lovely young woman.

Had to wait a good 10mn before someone came in but once they were there they have been really helpful!.

Depends on the person in the shop. I had a good experience there. There are maps that are free (and also paid) which are informative, especially around Windermere region. Do ask the staff for information about things to do in Lake District, and especially if you do have some specific things you would like to do. The souvenirs are fine, but we like the locker rental service (£6 for a sizeable locker for the day), which we used to have a trip around Windermere while waiting for the train to arrive. Do note that the bags have to be collected before the centre closes so time your hikes/walks properly.

Staff helful and knowledgeable of the area. Usual tourist products for sale. Leaflets for events around the Lakes area. Ideally situated.

The lady who attended us couldn't have been less uniformative, rude and care less about her job. It is to be expected that customers visiting a Tourist Information centre are not local. I came here with my parents, who are Spanish and do not speak fluent English. The lady working there did not seem to make any effort to inform us. She spoke in a rushed manner, even though the shop was empty and no other customers were waiting there. Luckily, I was there to translate for my parents, but it is not pleasant to observe how she treated them and how inpatient she was when they asked her to repeat some information. I think even a native English speaker would have struggled to follow her rushed instructions. I hope that, if she ever visit Spain, our hospitality is better than what she offered.

I came to windemere today on a day trip from Lancaster and I asked a young woman for advice, she was excellent and gave me plenty of suggestions, I'm currently having the best day ever on a lake cruise to Ambleside because of her recommendation! Thank you greatly to the woman who advised me today
