We have just had a takeaway from The Gateway Restaurant, absolutely fabulous. I had the Middle East Feast, vegetarian version. This has to be one of the best ever meals that I have been given anywhere. My wife had the couscous meal, again first rate. We also ordered desert, but can't fit them in tonight. I can't wait for an opportunity to eat in their restaurant, but tables are few and bookings are many.

We have come o this tearoom last year on holiday a number of times and really liked it. The owners were trying hard and the food was lovely. So, we were looking forward to coming again this year. Unfortunately, the place has very much changed for the worse. The mixed salad was mostly just green now. The size of the baked potato had significantly shrunk. But worst of all was the behaviour of the owner. While he was eager to please last year, he seemed seriously stressed and was now trying to boss us around. Maybe their success has gone to their head? We will be giving them 2 stars instead of one because it was great last year. What a shame!

Lovely old tea rooms with wonderful homemade cakes, beautiful china tea sets and filled with memorabilia. The menu was well priced and there was something for everyone. The service was great too.

What a foodies delight. This was one of the best meals I've eaten. It was such a treat to find it in this lovely small village. The authentic tastes and small detail were incredible starter, main, sides, desert and all the little extras couldn't be faulted. Sam you're such an excellent chef. Laurie is front of house and it's so lovely to walk into a space and feel so at ease and welcome. There was no ask too small, so friendly and fun to chat to. Sam and Laurie are the perfect duo - combination of talent, kindness and atmosphere makes it a must go to place. 5 stars all round. Thank you, we'll see you soon on our next trip back.

What a fabulous little restaurant. Outstanding food and warm and friendly service. Both the Indian thali and the desserts were stunning - the best meal we've had in many years. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Dartmoor.

I’ve had the good fortune to eat in some magnificent restaurants, yet last night at The Gateway, a tiny cafe tucked away in Dartmoor’s Mortenhampstead we ate one of our best meals ever. Three staff, four options, cocktails, and an amazing dinner. The subtle flavours of my thali will stay in my memory until we come here again. I hope that’s soon. Thank you The Gateway. You’re doing something truly special. The fact that your venue is so unassuming makes it all the more exciting.

We had an evening meal here last week and both the food and the service were absolutely exceptional. The host - Laurie I think - was helpful and friendly in a way that enhanced the evening. Very highly recommended.
