St James’ Church, Islington

The Church was built in 1875 to serve the new houses being constructed to the south of Essex Road following the opening of New North Road in 1812 and the Regent Canal in 1820.

The ‘Islington Proms’ are based at St James’ and the Church is used for concerts, rehearsals as well as meetings and school visits throughout the year. Most of the community of St James’ is engaged in discovering how to balance faith and intelligent enquiry with the demands of living in London today.  But we do not believe that being sacred means being solemn.
