I have been a patient here for nearly 10 years, This surgery has been a lifeline to me and day to day i couldn't cope without there support and assistance, Dr pat Hunter is an incredible doctor, she really does go above and beyond for me and my family and has helped us through many hard times i cannot recommend her highly enough, Her pa/ receptionist Helen is also worth her weight in gold, nothing is to much trouble and she really does go the extra mile for my family and i, we would be lost without there warm yet professional support, thank you cathays surgery

what an amazing Doctor's surgery, so helpful and very supportive, I can't say enough about their support. The team are my fathers GP their help has been amazing for all the help and support they provide. Their service is exceptional, the have and still are very polite and helpful. The receptionist are great listeners and GP is very helpful and supportive in the medical care for our father. If I lived closer I would have these as my local surgery.

Receptionists rude and unhelpful the vast majority of time. Doctors previously had given me advice that could have hospitalised me without me checking for a 2nd opinion. Absolutely useless.

Wonderful nurses and doctors, have been seeing Dr Davies for several years for mental health issues and she's lovely and supportive and have recently started seeing a nurse about my weight issues who is also very kind. Often runs late and appointments have to be booked quite far in advance but the staff are great!

The 4*s are mainly because Rebecca Carter Thomas is extremely kind, compassionate and helpful. Been through a few of the other doctors and found them relatively lacking in empathy. No problems with the receptionists (I must be one of the first to say this) but agree with waiting 1 month for an appointment during term time is a bit stressful.

I feel compelled to write this review, firstly after all the GP bashing in the media and secondly because the surgery is far better than made out on these reviews. My family and I have needed urgent GP appointments numerous times throughout the pandemic, we’ve never had any issues accessing these and the receptionists are always understanding. Yes we’ve had initial virtual GP consultations (but the staff need to be protected themselves) and then we usually end up seeing a doctor face to face, as deemed necessary. They take time to listen and investigate issues. They’re knowledgable in their field and will always refer on if needed. You never feel rushed to leave. Additionally throughout my most recent pregnancy, Jenny the midwife has been fantastic. We feel in really safe hands in this surgery and all the staff deserve far more credit than they get.

Have been a long-time patient of Cathays surgery (20+ odd years) and wouldn't go anywhere else. While things have got stricter recently with the restrictions the reception staff run a tight ship. Don't be put off by other reviews, they have always done their upmost to help us with the quality support of the doctors

Brilliant GP surgery, I'm really happy I'm with them! I think the reception staff get a lot of flack for things beyond their control and the awful way I've heard some patients speak to them is pretty shocking really. I find them lovely and helpful, a fair few times they have gone over and above to help me, and I am so grateful to them. Special mention to Helen who recently really helped me with a private referral issue, and was so lovely about it too. The GP's are all fantastic and I feel so lucky to have access to their high level of care, they have never let me down. Dr Pathy saved my life thanks to his knowledge and experience. Every nurse I've seen has been kind, knowledgeable and efficient. Through pregnancy I had an amazing midwife Jenni who was just perfect in every way. Fantastic!

Don't bother. The receptionist Joanne is absolute horrible. She is rude, abrupt and has made me cry in the past. I suffer with terrible anxiety, and the way she dealt with me was appalling, fully aware of my mental condition. This has happened on multiple occasions. If you check out other reviews you will see her name mentioned many times, how she still has a job I do not know. The only reason I have added a second star is because of the lovely doctor I see, Dr Lewis. She is amazing. I would give her 5 stars. The reason the surgery has bad reviews is purely because of the receptionist named.

2/ 5

I am a long time patient at this surgery and always found the Doctors to be highly professional. However the reception staff now seem to lack any good communication skills. Today I was told to expect a call from the practice pharmacist to discuss my medication at 1.30pm. At 2.10pm I called to see if there was any problem. Without any explanation or apology she told me I would get a call and just keep an ear out. It is now 4.00pm and I still wait. I wonder what would happen if I walked into an appointment over 2 hours late without apology or reason. Reception are the frontline but I feel further training should be given to avoid many of the reviews being so poor.
