Yesterday I got barred from this pub for asking the waitress/landlady if it was possible if she could back up a little bit as she was crouched down next to me and shouting in my ear while taking orders. I also said to her that she should really tell each person before passing a plate to them that its hot as she burnt my girlfriends hand pretty badly. No swearing and no raised voice. Don't get me wrong food was good but if you want bad service from a landlady who can't accept feedback you have found your pub.

Top marks for cleanliness and decor, it seemed as if the room and bathroom had been newly refurbished, unlike the overused, dated vibe you get in chain hotels. Good attention to detail with everything you need in the room. The breakfast was also delicious. This was not a problem for us as we got back late anyway, but it was noisy until 1am, as there was a party downstairs in the pub.

Brighton, darlings? You don't want to be down by the pier among the weekend carnage and the inescapable smell of old grease from a hundred burger bars and donut stalls. No, you want to be in Brunswick, just a short walk westwards, where you'll find classy bars, niche shops, and more locals, less stag parties. Bloody lovely little pub, with good decor, cosy friendly atmosphere, brilliant staff, great food, and lush rooms. Nice touches included decent bathroom toiletries, a double shower, oat milk and coffee pods in the room, Fair-trade tea (and biscuits), bottle of water by the bed, 3 large towels for 2 of us. The bar guy brought us 2 rounds of mulled wine up 2 flights of stairs to our room.

We had a really lovely short stay at The Southern Belle last week. We stayed in room 4 which was to the side of the pub/hotel and had a decent sized bedroom which appeared to be newly decorated (very nice) with a gorgeous new bathroom! Very good quality toiletries on offer, coffee maker, kettle, different teas and coffee, milk and even oatmilk! Bedroom was very warm, bed very comfy! Had a lovely cooked breakfast. Nice pub and food. Cocktail bar also available and happy hour on offer which we took advantage of 😉. Staff very nice and helpful. Great all round 😁. Fab location for proximity to Brighton beach (quarter min if that!), Hove and about 10 min walk to central Brighton, maybe 15mins to the lanes/Brighton train station. Loved staying here and am sure we'll be back!
