Having fried my drive, I was completely in their hands in terms of if anything could be recovered. They envisaged a budget of £100 to recover what might be possible, but upon opening it up (in their workshop, i.e. I was in their hands) they manged to drop the drive into a new enclosure and thus bypass the power board..which came to a bill of £47:) Technical knowledge and honesty - Portishead: these guys deserve your business.

A big thank you to Nortech for coming to my rescue and fixing my computer. The hard drive had died and they were able to fix it and bring it back within a few days at a very busy time for them. When bringing it back to work for me things took a while to set back up but they were very patient and helpful and got it all sorted. All done at a very reasonable price considering the time and effort they went to. Thanks so much!

Update- received a reply from them and apparently £29 is standard charge just to look at it- so that’s ok (?) If we hadn’t intervened though she would of paid £150 unknowingly. This has happened before where she was being charged every year by another company to clean her computer- we looked through the files and it hadn’t been touched. Unfortunately IT bods know the older generation aren’t savvy. Beware. This place tried to scam my mum out of £150 by claiming her hard drive was corrupt. All she wanted was her photos taken off and the computer wiped. They claimed that they couldn’t find the photos and the computer needed a new hard drive. When we phoned on her behalf the guy put the phone down once he realised we were on to him. He then ignored our calls until we used a different number and he picked up straight away. He still charged her £29 for doing nothing, but at least it wasn’t £150. When we opened the laptop after picking it up, we found the photos he claimed were inaccessible, straight away.
