Holland A A cambridge

Mr Holland has been my dentist since I was 12. I'm now 57! He's an excellent clinician and the only dentist I trusted in all of those years.

This dentist, Mr. Holland, did an amalgam filling on my nine year old son, without my permission. He took him into the dental room by himself, for a "checkup", saying that children get on best without their mothers present. (I regret allowing this). Then he did an amalgam filling on my son without asking me or telling me first. I did not want an amalgam filling for my son. We do not want anything to do with mercury, which is clearly a controversial material in dental amalgam. I did not give my permission for any treatment. I was very upset and angry with this dentist. Further, he was very condescending and insulting. When I asked why he had done the filling without my permission, he said he wanted to do it quickly so my son wasn't bothered by it. He said that he didn't want me present during the filling in case my son got upset by his mother's presence. (No other dentist has ever said such a thing to me.) Disgusting and patronising. We are never going back.
