This English Heritage site covers various stages of history. It was an Iron Age fort and then used by the Normans as the site of the first castle and eventually cathedral for Salisbury (before the bishops moved and the town grew up in its current site). You get some good views over towards Salisbury from the top of the mound and can see the outline of the original Salisbury Cathedral within the grounds,
