Lovely student accommodation and great university! ☺️ Very green spaces too!
Great place to stay. Very safe and secure place. Rooms are small but cozy. It has attached bathroom. Kitchen is shared by 5-7 rooms. I lived here for a short period but loved it.
If you enjoy living in a box, this is the place to be. Very small rooms, but has everything you need in them, such as a desk, mini fridge, shower and toilet and a single bed to sleep in. Good odds of making friends as a uni student, as you'll be living with 7 other students. But hope you get along as the war for a space in the fridge is inevitable.
This review was originally 2* however as it gets progressively worse I have had to lower it Silverfish infestation, tiny rooms, tiny showers. renovated pay the same as non-renovated accomodation (there is a markedly big difference between the two) Staff range from being absolutely lovely to unacceptably rude. Cleaners sit on their phones and drink tea in our kitchen when there's "nothing to clean" (their job is very minimal in what they should clean and our kitchen is quite tidy, as cleaners have said themselves but it's quite obvious they haven't done anything). Staff have shown people around my flatmates rooms without their permission and then kicked my flatmates out of our kitchen as they were having a meeting in there. At the beginning of the year there's promoters who somehow find their way into your kitchen. If you are on the ground floor you will smell cigarette smoke/cannabis most of the night. Some people i know have had rats in their vents Im in a disabled access flat which means that we do not have a sofa. If you are disabled and are considering living at plas Gwyn, please consider what "access" means you have access to your room and your flat and nothing else. The rec room does not have access. WiFi will occasionally randomly turn off and just not work (ethernet will still work) No extractor fans in bathrooms mould will build up unless you keep the bathroom door and window open (difficult if you're ground floor) I would recommend buying mould remover spray before you arrive. There are room inspections that last the better half of 5 seconds that consist of checking your bathroom and not much else. (Despite the poor shape of the buildings there is a £25 fine if your room is not up to their expectations (albeit I haven't heard of anyone ever getting this fine) Staff entered flatmates room and left window open and unlocked while they were away (bare in mind this is a ground floor flat facing the car park, anyone could have entered the room) Another review from a year ago mentioned a broken ceiling light, I think I might be staying in the same flat. (Maintaince is very slow) Occasional free pizza (never enough for everyone) There is a rec room with a pool table (the floor is on a slight slant and the room is too small so it's pretty useless) I would not recommend staying in Plas Gwyn (Sorry to the nice staff)
Good clean comfortable rooms
❤️❤️
Great place to spend you first year of uni .You'll meet some great people .
From the parent perspective. Child back in Uni, my life is now back to normal, parking OK but a bit of a faff with the guy on the gate. All good in the end and the house is quiet again. From the student perspective. Its a grim place to be covid quarantined. Like prison but without the outdoor exercise. I didn't give this 4 stars.
Great place to further yourself
Room was spacious and had essentials, like a desk and minifridge - but since it isn't renovated there's damage on the ceiling and walls. You'll be lucky getting renovated, and you won't even have to pay extra, a little unfair but it is what it is. Bathroom looked adequate until I started experiencing a host of problems; leaky shower head wasn't fixed properly until I reported it several times, which in itself lead to a mould outbreak that I had to deal with. My shower would constantly flood and even after reporting it, it wasn't dealt with. The flat itself was alright, aside from the water. It wasn't drinkable, tasted mouldy and more often than not in my own bathroom the water reeked of gas. My light was hanging off in my room, and their "temporary solution" was to clip it with zip ties and leave me to it. If aiming for a quiet flat, this is not the place for you. Even after applying for one, I had to deal with an abundance of noise and shaking throughout most of my weeks, including flatmates who didn't respect the noise curfew and covid rules and began harassing us when we reported them. The security are more accommodating than the actual reception team, but even they have been negligent on keeping an eye out and enforcing rules; typically just sit on their phones and watch the local sports team throughout the night. I'd say the only benefit is probably making friends and how local it is to campus; though I never got the chance to go there due to the circumstances this year. This place was a literal prison this year, and if you have nothing to do, this would probably be the worst first year of your uni life. Would recommend going for a more pricier campus that's actually worth your money. (Note, these have been taken the night before moving out. The room damage was there prior.)
