Cannot recommend highly enough

5.0/ 5

I have been going to the Bruntsfield salon for several years and can’t rate them highly enough. I have had cuts and colours from a range of their staff, all have been excellent, so that I never worry if my usual stylist is unavailable when I need a trim. I would also mention the Kerasilk treatment I had with Maxine in Aug 2021. I wish I had done this years ago. My hair is straight and used to be glossy but as it has gone grey it has become frizzy and harder to manage, even when I colour it carefully. I had tried all manner of expensive products on it, but thought carefully before investing in Kerasilk, given the cost. However it is the best money I have ever spent on my hair. It transformed the condition and appearance. Initially for the first week or two it was so well conditioned that my previous products were much too heavy and weighed it down, but as I adapted to that and my hair settled after the treatment, it has simply looked like the shiny hair I had when I was younger, and has been amazingly easy to look after and style. Six months on, the benefits are still considerable, and I am starting to hope my hair is permanently treated. I fully expect to have to repeat this treatment again at some point in the future, but I don’t think I will need it soon, and I will gladly invest in Kerasilk again when the time comes.

The hairdressers did an *amazing* job on my 11yo sister today; she was very patient and took her time cutting a lot of hair off and making a style that my sister absolutely loves! Thank you so much to everyone at Cheynes Bruntsfield for making this experience so good for her.

First time at this salon. Melissa was fab, love the colour and cut. I was a little disappointed I didn't get my head massage by the junior whilst she washed my hair :-(. Will definitely be back as Melissa was great.

I got an amazing haircut, however I went expecting an student discount and the blowout was not included in the price so I ended paying more than I was expecting or affording really

1/ 5

Had an appointment there about nine months ago and it was awful. I went for a consultation the week before and they asked me if I was a student, I said yes and then they quoted me £100 for my treatment. I arrive at my appointment the following week and they are very dismissive, do a patchy job on my hair, deciding that there is no need nor time for toner (there was a need - my hair was orange underneath), they then leave me in the downstairs hair-wash room alone for way too long and I find out from another stylist that the stylist that my main hairdresser asked to wash my hair out had gone home! I come upstairs already feeling dismayed about having to fork over £100 for pretty bad service, I sit down and no one attends to me for ten minutes or more and suddenly a credit card reader is shoved in my face when my hair is still soaking. The woman from the front of house is demanding payment now because she wants me to leave as soon as I'm done. She demands £160, £60 more than I'd been quoted and I ask her about this and she snaps that students only get discounted on weekdays. I felt so cheated because I made sure they knew I was a student and my time was flexible and they booked me in for one of the two days out of the week I couldn't get a discount. My main hairdresser was nice enough when he remembered I was there, chatted about Edinburgh because I was new that week to the city but he was obviously trying to do two or three clients at once. My hair came out patchy and uneven and the roots were left dark with orange underneath despite going very light blonde. Not worth the money at all. For service and a job like that I honestly wouldn't have payed £70, which is significantly less than the going rate for my treatment. I have only been there once and it was recommended to me by a friend, so I'm sure this experience is not shared by every client, but I wouldn't go again and would probably even warn friends and family of my experience there if they expressed interest in going, to be completely honest.

I've been going here for about 10 years and have always been happy. I strayed for a while to somewhere closer and cheaper after having kids but it was never quite the same. Luckily they haven't held it against me 😊 I can recommend Lara for both cut and colour.
