Important note: the kitchen does not open until 5:30pm meaning you can only get drinks from the bar until after that time when food becomes available. This information is not posted anywhere and likely changes based on time of year. That said, I had the twice cooked pork belly with chips instead of mash and it was absolutely fantastic. The cut of pork belly was huge, with a crispy layer of skin on top and well rendered layers of meat and fat underneath. The roasted root veggies and gravy that comes with it were also fantastic. Prices were very reasonable as well. This is a very historic pub with a lot of unique character, and you should definitely find one night to have dinner here if you're in town!

Wonderful food (various choices of starters, main courses and deserts, all pretty tasty and nicely plated, excellent choice of artisanal types of breads too), prompt and helpful table service and staff, the food was served to us in just the right amount of time, plus the well kept and decorated surrounding environment gives you that medieval city tavern vibe too! Brilliant experience, it was our second time there and definitely going back in the future! A gem in the heart of Salisbury!

Best in Salisbury we love the history of the place. There's a hand in the wall that has been there since the place was built. We always play Trivial Pursuit as we sit around the fire. They served the best steak and kidney pudding that my wife Michelle, has ever had.

The atmosphere in this pub is incredible. Very warm and homey, a place I would want to sit in for hours. I had the venison burger which had great flavour (could be improved with a better binding agent in the patty, it was a bit too crumbly making it hard to eat).

Absolutely lovely layout, reminiscent of a ski chalet: small, low sealing, wooden rooms, fire place, separee to the right of the entrance, with its own door ( quite interesting ). The cheesy chips are the best we have had in The UK. The ale ( Courage ) was also good, slightly bitter, not cold, low bubble content . The only negative feeling is due to the bar tender: unfriendly in general and intrusive. He entered the first floor room, blew unnecessarily forcefully into the fireplace ash and that lead to a cloud of ash to become airborne upsetting the up-to-then peaceful and friendly atmosphere. This aspect could be improved.
