Bring a peg for your nose if you ever have cause to visit Southwick. The place often stinks of bad eggs. (Due to blockages at the local water treatment works, caused by things like cooking oil and baby wipes.) Luckily I don't live here.

4/ 5

Southwick station doesn’t look too bad but it’s one of the quietest locations to visit in the South of England. It’s only 1 hour from London and less than 20 mins to Brighton by train. Giving this 4 stars and a solid 8 out of 10. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

3/ 5

The slopes up to each platform are very long and steep and may be an inconvenient obstacle if you have a disability, health condition, injury, heavy luggage, double buggy or wheelchair. But it's a good workout when running for a train. No lift to platforms. Very limited parking/drop off point on the westbound side. Close link to the seafront 700 bus to Worthing/Brighton. 46 bus departs Southwick Square - approx. 8 min walk from platforms. No waiting taxis. No toilets or cafe. Bike racks available - but personally I would not trust a bike to be safe there. Ticket office is manned for limited hours during the early morning for commuters. (To check current opening hours, visit Southern website link in the maps listing for this station.) The lighting on the platforms is interactive and switches on as you move along the platform. No waiting room. Clean, well maintained station. Not all of the trains stop here, so you may need to change at Shoreham by Sea, Hove or Worthing for a connection. Commuter trains are generally packed with workers and Northbrook Met students. Shoreham Port is a 3min walk via Station Rd. No beach access there; a small bay further west. Prone to eggy smells from nearby water treatment works.
