I have been a patient with Wilton Health Surgery for 20 years. The "merger" with Salisbury Medical Practice has provided some advantages albeit the personal nature of relationships has been lost. However, the practice management should do something about the arrangements for approving prescriptions. The prescription clerks take it upon themselves to change/decline the request from the Patient and do so without any communication with the Patient. The Patient gets a message from the on line service which gives a date when the prescription can be collected. The Patient arrives at the Chemist to find the prescription has not been approved. The prescription clerks do not take calls leaving the frustrated Patient in the hands of the call centre. It is not right and you should change standard practice. In particular, the clerks should be required to notify the Patient if they have changed or declined a prescription request. I notice other reviewers have made similar comments. It is time to take note.

3/ 5

I've been a patient of Salisbury Medical Practice for many years and can say that for the most part, the level of care from my GP's has been excellent; especially of recent years Dr Greene. The problem however is that, suffering from chronic health conditions, I often find I cannot get an appointment with the same GP, the one who understands my medical history and conditions, unless I am prepared to wait for nearly a month a time. This is compounded by the fact the receptionists seem not to understand the importance of someone with a complex medical history being seen by the same GP; (else seen by other GP's half the appointment is spent with them trying to read through my notes and listening to the relevant medical history to the problem I am there at the time with, and rarely end with a satisfying outcome for myself, more along the lines of being given a new prescription or a we understand but if its still an issue "come back to see us in a months time" line.) The current system of releasing appointments in a staggered system means it is nearly impossible for patients like myself to see, or even be offered, an appointment with the same GP, unless I ring back twice daily for more than a week (last time it took over 11 days), on the off chance an appointment has been released and that it is still available when I phone through. On top of that, the reluctance of some of the receptionists to pass a note on to my GP, even when it is relevant to something she requested I let her know about, just further adds to the frustration of the problem. I only hope that the surgery can address this, and realise that in some cases, with patients with complex medical or chronic conditions, it is important to have availability or options to book appointments with their same GP, even if it is in a few weeks time advance. My rating would be 5-star when it comes to the care from my GP, which I cannot fault, it is the lack of availability of appointments and further lack of understanding this issue that lets this surgery down.

I've been to a few medical practices in Salisbury, and this is by far the best place for booking an appointment - I can even book online which is brilliant for my job. Compare this to a practice in the centre of town where you're lucky to have them answer the phone and give you an appointment in the next month.. I find the staff really helpful, but I do get a bit frustrated with the reception sometimes where there can be differences of opinion - i've been told yes on Tuesday after checking with supervisor and come back on Wednesday to be given a flat 'No'.

We transferred from St Anne's surgery as making an appointment was extremely difficult and the level of care and knowledge from the Doctors was sporadic at best. This surgery is much better, we have found the reception staff to be friendly, the practice nurse and the doctors are very good too. We are very pleased to have made the move.

Salisbury Medical practice, the Doctors are amazing. However the reception staff are rude. Unsympathetic. Lack empathy. People ring the surgery as they are ill or worried. Unfortunately the reception staff (not all may I add) lack skills in these areas. If you dare question anything, I was told she didn't get paid enough for this and put the phone Down on me. I strongly feel that some of these reception staff also need to re address the equality and diversity policies. As we do not all fit in the same box I know of several people that now do not ring, as the reception staff can be so unhelpful and leaving you feeling alone and helpless.

I waited two weeks for an appointment only for doctor Fiona Tipler to ring once then hang up, she did this twice as I was watching the phone. I then phoned and waited 15 minutes on hold to be told its my fault by a argumentative receptionist who clearly only wanted to provoke. This surgery needs better management.
