The staff at the Radbourne Unit were fantastic. They worked so hard, were incredibly caring and patient. This was a huge part of my recovery and i couldn't have done it without them. Thanks so much to the nursing staff, catering staff and the doctors at ward 35 of the Radbourne Unit, I'm very very grateful.

My daughter went in there very poorly with severe psychosis. It was a real rollercoaster of ups and downs, but the brilliant doctors and nurses really are experienced, amazing and really know what they are doing. The staff all worked with her to stabilise her and get her on the right meds and get better. It took 3 months, and there was times I thought she would never come out, it was heartbreaking to see her like that as she was so very poorly up and down. Luckily she worked on herself too with their help. She is ok now thanks to the fantastic NHS which we are so lucky to have, and the amazing Mental health services.

I was taken into RU on April 10th as I wanted to kill myself. Spent most of my 11 weeks on ward 34, an all male ward. All the staff are excellent, caring and compassionate. Facilities are great, with a nice TV room and even a pool table. Has a mixture of single rooms and 4-5 bed dorms, which are excellent. Food is served at 8am, midday and 5pm. It isvery good as well, which even a picky eater like me found to be tasty and nutritious. Medication is well controlled, and PRN meds available. Ward rounds once a week, where you can discuss your care with drs. Visiting is limited by currently, and has to be pre-booked. Patient meetings held every Sunday at 4pm, where ward issues are discussed. To all the staff, you kept me safe and helped me in the right direction. Sounds weird, but I was sad to leave

The Radbourne Unit must be one of the best in the Country and it’s unbelievable that it’s all free on the NHS. The staff are so hard-working it’s no surprise they don’t have time to leave the office to talk to patients which is admirable. The cleanliness standards are second to none and the food equivalent to a 5-star all-inclusive Hotel. I found queuing to be pumped full of anti-psychotics at 10pm the highlight of the day followed swiftly by a plump rosy-cheeked nurse tucking you up in bed and singing a lullaby. Such happy memories.

Are family have been let down, as my son who has Asperger's (autism) was taken off the street and sectioned, he does not have a mental health condition, the unit have given my son quitiapine which is affected his health, , it's disappointing that we have not been given support with a CTR to allow him to go home he does not live in Derby/ Derbyshire area and has not seen his relatives in a long while, we have been let down considerably, it is a great let down appointments about my son have been made about his welfare and the unit do not inform close relatives( such as myself) disappointing!
