Shower flooded through to carpeted area, wardrobe door would not shut, buttons on mattress scrape you when turn over, very uncomfortable, breakfast was cold and found hair in it, showed girl serving breakfast, we were booked for 2 nights for our 25th anniversary but we had to cancel unfortunately, the hotel did refund in full. I would not recommend. The lady on reception when we left was very helpful, we could not upgrade as nothing available. I would not give this hotel 4 stars, if it was just one thing I could understand. Luckily we found alternative accommodation within a short distance, was only a 3 star but should have been a 5 star, amazing service, food, facilities and the room was outstanding. I would highly recommend the City Gate.

A little bit dated but pretty nice. Very friendly and smiling staff always available to help. Plenty of measures taken against the spread of Covid-19 like the use of breakfast ordering sheet making the process non contact. Comfy bed and well laid out room.

The hotel has a very good customer service. The only problem was the fact that my room was a bit cold but once they knew, I was given a radiator. The room was massive for me alone and very clean. Their breakfast was superb and big. I didn't have to eat lunch as I was still full.Their safety procedure due to cov19 is perfect. Also, I forgot my blouse in the hotel, which was kept for me. A friend collect it. Thank you Mercure for that. What else can I say, I just had a great time staying at this hotel. Thank you. May God bless you

We are so impressed by this hotel. The lady on reception (Jo) was super friendly and very helpful. The hotel does need a little updating, but we didn't mind that. The only negative was the bed was so super hard, both myself and my husband didn't sleep that well. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and the staff were brilliant. We will return.

No hot water when I arrived in the room, lift didn’t work so I had to carry my suitcase two floors up (no help was offered by staff at the Reception) and patch of water on a carpet in the room! The breakfast food quality was less than average. I am glad I didn’t have to eat dinner at the hotel. Awful for Mercure brand as I expected better having stayed in one of the Mercure hotels before.

Room was nice, really warm greeting on arrival to the hotel and great location close to the station.

Room was nice, really warm greeting on arrival to the hotel and great location close to the station. Car park was full, but I arrived late and cant fault the hotel for this as there physically isn't further space to extend the car park. Overall I thought the hotel was great!!
