Mansfield has an interesting history going back to the nonconformist college in Birmingham. Some of this legacy is still present in the college. Mansfield's library (which is absolutely charming!) is decorated with portraits of ministers who did not conform to the 1662 Act of Uniformity.

Despite being in the city centre, the campus of Mansfield College is pleasantly quiet and delightfully refreshing. No queues of tourists fighting for a selfie spot, just groups and groups of students sitting or standing around, chatting and laughing, interrupted occasionally by a passing professor or a college staff. Mansfield is very successful in widening access and the college has proudly over 90% of its students coming from the state schools (= free schools for everyone), a unusual and admirable pursuit of equality and inclusiveness, the core pillars of education. While the campus of most colleges in Oxford are no longer open to the public specially during term day time, Mansfield appears to maintain a more welcoming policy that so long as you are not in a large group,do not disturb the others and keep off the lawn, it's ok to wander around and take a few photos. Probably the best-kept secret of Oxford!
