Sadly the effort that has been put into furnishings that give the appearance of a fancy boutique hotel has not been reflected in the facilities and basic requirements. We stayed here as we were getting married in Bristol the day of check in. When we arrived at lunch time there was no information in the room about room service, food available locally or a minibar. My husband went downstairs to order some food but was told the restaurant was unavailable to guests at that time and room service was not available until 6pm. As we hadn’t eaten he had to leave the hotel and find takeaway locally (fortunately there are places nearby). Both lifts only had buttons that worked for 3 floors (one lift was missing floor 1, the other missing floor 4) and the lifts were also periodically out of service. This meant we used the stairs for the majority of our stay as waiting for a lift (which could access our floor) could take ages. The staff were aware about the broken lifts but nothing seemed to be happening to fix it. We booked an “executive privilege room” but the only difference seemed to be a coffee machine with 3 coffee pods and a fridge with “complimentary drinks” consisting of a couple of bottles of water that weren’t replenished after the first day, a can of Sprite and a Pepsi Max. The fridge itself was pretty useless as it could barely fit a bottle of wine. The only storage for clothes was a tiny wardrobe and no drawers or cupboard to store foldable clothes, underwear etc. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work and there were no wash cloths provided with the towels. There was no bath as advertised in booking details (via booking.com) We came back to the hotel on a Saturday night at 10.50pm to find the bar closed, and no drinks available by room service despite there being a party happening in the function room with a bar selling alcohol past 11pm. The room was very dark with poor lighting (even with every single light on and curtains open it wasn’t bright enough to do make up / contact lenses etc (except in the bathroom). Parking was an extra £15 a day and required you to get a ticket from reception for every time you needed to leave the car park (rather than having a card allowing entry and exit to the car park for the duration of your stay). Not the worst hotel I’ve stayed in and the staff were pleasant enough, but disappointing as it’s certainly pitched as being upmarket and our experience didn’t match expectations.

Great location and hotel parking. Friendly staff on reception and bar. Clean and tidy big rooms. Had a lovely night sleep. Wedding on and loud music can be heard in your rooms but did not keep us awake. Overall great night stay, would stay again.

Staff were really lovely, breakfast was pretty good. And it's nice that there is parking on site (but it does cost extra). But the walls are really thin probably because it's an old building and the rooms feel a little small and dated given how much we paid. Still generally a good experience just not particularly good value for money.

I had a pretty pleasant stay here. Walls are a bit thin, so there's a bit of luck involved with neighbours, but all the staff were friendly and happy to help. It was nice that parking was free - a real rarity in Bristol.

Me and my sister stayed in the hotel as we were going to a concert in Bristol. Being that this is a 4-star hotel, we were really excited. However sadly we were disappointed. The rooms/the interiors of the hotel were very nice however that was all it had going for it. Firstly, the first night we were staying there there was a wedding (which we were not informed of prior or at check-in - which I thought was disappointing) which was very loud and kept us up. Secondly, the room-service wasn't very good. We asked for a jug of water to be brought up and it took 40 minutes for them to finally bring up a glass of water and that was after we rang again. Thirdly, we weren't able to get all the channels on the TV and the remote didn't work properly. Fourthly, the security wasn't the best - anybody could go into the different floors and didn't require a key-card. Definitely needs to be re-designed. Another problem that I had, was that the restaurant did not offer any Vegan options on the menu for breakfast or dinner (other than the accidental vegan options such as chips, baked beans etc.) Lastly, when sending an email to the Mercure explaining our stay and our complaints, all they did was offer us an upgrade of our room the next time we come to stay. I thought this was very poor as I don't know if I will be coming to Bristol again, let alone the hotel. Overall, even though the area was nice and the hotel looked grand, in my opinion, it did not live up to a 4-star standard, especially in terms of service.
