Fantastic stay, staff are exceptional, food amazing, room was beautiful, toiletries in bathroom WOW, bought some shampoo to take home (yes, it is that good) stayed for our 25th wedding anniversary, can honestly say this is the best place we have stayed in to date!! For our age we have visited lots of places! Can we give 20/10? If you are coming to Exeter, stay here, you will not be disappointed! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will be back. Outstanding!!

Just had a wonderful 2 night mini break at the city gate hotel. I was in room 21, which has a unique shape, but it felt a little like having 2 rooms for the price of one. Lovely views of the rolling countryside and quaint Exeter housing. The bathrooms are something else. Really up a notch on all the local competitors. Huge and comfy beds. Room was decorated tastefully and the quirks in design are adorable. The extras in the room are great, coffee machine with cold milk in the fridge. Sky TV and a full selection of snacks and drinks in the mini bar - if you got locked in you could survive several days! The individual air con / heating is a real luxury touch, alongside the large (and if they are large on me, they'll dwarf you!!) White fluffy towels. The breakfasts were hearty and well done, really nice seating area, starts the day in the right way. Also had drinks outside, huge seating area - I imagine on a sunny day it would be a real treat. The staff are all great, Jade and her team are wonderful and go out of their way to be nice. We hear enough about COVID, but it is important to mention the entire venue felt safe and secure and the staff ae always cleaning. I always recommend the city gate as it is perfect for any type of trip.
